Medical Services, like all other services, are provided free of charge.
Pregnancy Testing
We
offer free pregnancy testing that is 98.4% accurate in detecting pregnancies as early as 7 to 10 days after conception. By the time a woman has missed her period, she is most likely about 14 days pregnant. The test detects the presence of the hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) hormone in a woman's urine. This hormone is produced by the baby's placenta upon implantation in the mother's uterus. It makes its way in to the mother's bloodstream and eventually into her urine. Test results are availalble within minutes.
In some cases, a positive test may be difficult to interpret. For instance, if a woman has recently been pregnant (whether it resulted in a live birth, a miscarriage, or an abortion) her hCG levels may still be elevated from this previous pregnancy. In
the rare event of inconclusive results, you will be asked to return for a retest. A urine sample taken first thing in the morning gives the greatest chance of accuracy.
If your test is positive and you need a pregnancy test verification for insurance, Medi-cal, AIM or WIC, a nurse or other medical staff person can provide one for you. Prenatal vitamins can be requested free of charge, and a list of OB/GYN's in your area can be provided.
Ultrasound
An ultrasound can be scheduled with qualified CAPS personnel. An ultrasound may be used to help figure out how far along you are if you are uncertain of your last menstrual period. CAPS cannot provide ultrasounds to diagnose abnormalities or to determine the sex of your baby.
Initial Health Care Provider Visit
An appointment with a doctor or nurse practitioner can be scheduled. It is important to see a medical professional who can provide you with much of the information you will need to know about your pregnancy. While we do not offer ongoing prenatal care through the duration of pregnancy, our doctor and nurse practitioners are able to see you to get you started off right. If you need help finding an OB/GYN, our counseling staff can help you find someone in your area who can see you through your pregnancy.
